Archives - December 2007
December 31st, 2007
Time's almost up and what have I done? Guess I'm still a single ol' bum.
So much for all the stuff I've said. It's not as if I am gonna get paid.
Whatever man, I'll still be drawing. Assuming I'll wake up in the morning.
Thus, just in case I don't appear.....
I hope you all, at least, had a decent year.
December 29th, 2007 - Death Smiles 1CC!
I did it! Managed to 1 coin clear this shooter with Windia today. Score was
a measly 36,046,668. But at least I beat it before the end of the year as
planned. However, I noticed something new in the game...
December 28th, 2007 - Waking Zoe
I've gotten a lot of emails coming from people who are scratching their heads
trying to understand this book. I am glad that 2 people so far have figured
out what is happening in the story (meaning I am not entirely CUCKOO). Anyway,
here are seven clues that may help those who are still hurting in their heads.
December 25th, 2007 - Merry Christmas!!
Nuff said.
December 23rd, 2007 - In Rainbows Discbox
My In Rainbows Discbox has arrived, courtesy of Yui who is here for the
holidays. It's a really pretty boxset. Haven't seen something like this in
a while. The 2nd CD that isn't part of the digital download in October is
quite an EP on its own. Will let everyone know when I decipher it more.
December 22nd, 2007 - Umbrella
Been listening to this lately. It's a cover of Rihanna's overplayed Umbrella.
But these Swedish guys called Lillasyster fucking rock it HARDCORE!!! Must
watch it again! Please turn up volume.
December 21st, 2007 - The Smashing Pumpkins American Gothic EP
The Smashing Pumpkins (essentially Billy Corgan + Jimmy Chamberlin) are going
to release a 4 track acoustic EP on iTunes come Jan 2. Tracks include The Rose
March, Pox, Again Again Again (The Crux) and Sunkissed. I'm hoping these are
better than the songs on the slightly above average Zeitgeist album. Now, the
bigger question is when will Singapore officially get iTunes?!!!
December 20th, 2007 - Waking Zoe
I think you should be able to click past page 29 of Waking Zoe already. I'm
trying out the time release function on the software. If you encounter problems,
please let me know.
December 19th, 2007
Hey everyone, I've been rather busy loading up the pages to Zoe. It'll come
out tonight at midnight, if anybody's interested. I've got friends from around
the world cluster-fucking on this island over the next few days through New
Year's, so I do apologize if there is a lack of updates.
December 17th, 2007 - Alien Hominid
I was talking to a friend yesterday and we were going on about how Metal Slug
Complete on the PS2 is an awesome game compilation. That nobody cares about
platform shooters anymore. All of a sudden, I realize he doesn't even know that
Alien Hominid exists! So here's another flash game and a classic one at that.
December 15th, 2007 - Caracal
I missed Caracal when they performed at Zoukout and checking out their site
makes me regret arriving late. Aargh! Anyway, another band to add to the Links.
Gotta link them all. Local bands that is. Heh.
December 14th, 2007 - The Great Spy Experiment
GSE is now in the spotlight of the local indie scene having received the kind
of media explosion Electrico had 3 years ago when So Much More Inside came out.
They're clearly two different sounds so those friends of mine who say they are
the next Electrico, I would say no. GSE is definitely pushing a more melodic,
powerpop/rock sound. I'll have to check out their album Flower Show Riots.
December 12th, 2007 - The Fabulous IQ Of David Gunn
Before Electrico came on at Zoukout, I was rather pleased I could enjoy the
fuck-care performance rock antics of The Fabulous IQ Of David Gunn. I had no
idea it was X'Ho up there in costume, until the third song. I seriously dug
their rendition of Sabrina's "Boys". Add to that the fact they got cut off in
their last song only 3 bars in. Told to leave. I am totally into them now.
December 11th, 2007 - Electrico
Everyone who knows local music knows Electrico. I've listened to their two
albums, but I've never heard them live. Yes, I am a mountain turtle...who had
been living on the mountain called NYC, so don't hate the player, hate the...
erm...game? Anyway, I finally got to hear them at Zoukout and am very interested
in the new songs they debuted, like the one after "Walk". Know the name?
December 10th, 2007 - Space Capstar II
Let's finish off Nigoro's lineup with their 4th web game, Space Capstar II.
Use your mouse to guide Randolph into the heart of K9 to find the Red Krypton.
Watch out for your fuel gauge. Selecting higher game levels yield more stages.
Can you reach the 5th stage? The docking sequence is mega tough.
December 9th, 2007 - ZoukOut Finally Done!!!
And I am very happy to have found a last minute friend to attend it with.
Now, back to sleep in this wonderfully dreary, weary weather...
December 8th, 2007 - Getting Into Vinyl Part III
The 2 websites I mentioned yesterday are where I found some hyper rare tracks.
What about stores here in Singapore? I know HMV carries vinyl, but only new
current dance 12". I remember Valentine Music Centre in Parklane had a large
LP collection of 70s-90s material, although I think they've moved. Anybody
know of other stores like Mango Music in All Things Being? Please post.
December 7th, 2007 - Getting Into Vinyl Part II
So you've decided to start collecting. Well, you are going to find a lot of
songs on vinyl that you can't obtain on CD such as extended remixes, reprises,
not to mention rare tracks on B-sides (the A-side on a record is where the hit
singles are cut, B-Sides are usually less radio friendly but there are hidden
gems!) Prices vary, but check GEMM & EIL to see how high they can go.
December 6th, 2007 - Getting Into Vinyl Part I
I have been informed that my In Rainbows discbox is being dispatched. Hooray.
And in it are some vinyls going into my collection. Vinyl sure isn't dead. Even
major labels are taking notice of the slight growth over this year, putting
out more vinyl versions of hits in recent months. But before you start getting
all gaga over this lost format, please do note the starting costs involved.
December 5th, 2007 - ZoukOut?
Anybody going to ZoukOut this Saturday? Seeing how I haven't had the chance to
attend any of them in the past years, I thought I may try this year's. But
nobody I know (who wants to go) is in Singapore! And the rain today is scaring
me with...mucho mistrust...about the weather.
December 4th, 2007 - DRM-free MP3s The Way To Go?
Walmart's doing it. Amazon just soft-launched theirs. Pepsi is tying up with
Amazon for some MP3 action next year. Is such MP3 distribution setting the
next standard in digital distribution? Whatever the outcome, you can bet
the major labels are sweating their (insert body parts here). See if you have
anything to say about this.
December 3rd, 2007 - Waking Zoe Release Date Set
Just so everyone doesn't think I'm not working on anything, the full version
of Waking Zoe will be released on Thursday, December 20th. My hands are
seriously cramping up and I need to finish this book before I lose my motor skills.
December 3rd, 2007 - Hikkoshi Poru Poru
Nigoro's 3rd web game. It may seem bland compared to Rose & Camellia
or Death Village, but do give it a try. Control the poor guy running after his
girlfriend's moving truck as items fall out and crows attack! Use the arrow
keys to move and spacebar to jump. Catch food to regain health. The music is
rather catchy and it's cool to watch the sunset as the game progresses.
December 2nd, 2007 - Silent Hill - The Arcade
This gun shooting game is finally out in Singapore! I'm a big fan of this
Konami survival horror series so I am ecstatic about visiting SH locales such
as Brookhaven Hospital where you can fight nurses! 1 coin got me as far as
Pyramid Head where I was chopped. People are complaining that the graphics are
awful but you can read my rant here. I'm going back to meet Robby!
December 1st, 2007 - System 16 Arcade Museum
If you're like me, you'll eventually want a dedicated arcade room in your
apartment with several Astro City sit-downs, a linked Namco racing cabinet and
probably a full Beatmania IIDX module. Since 1999, System 16 has been the
database I go to when I want to check the board specs and names of any game
released in the coin-op realm. See if you remember some of these games!
