Dec 31st, 2008 - Update
So 2008 is over and tons of shit happened. Lots of good music got released.
(I proclaim Vampire Weekend as the BEST album of the year.) I met some interesting
folks. Got more comics out. Finished playing all my unopened games. Did the
full ZoukOut. Updated the site...fairly regurlarly. Not very earth-shattering
achievements. But hey, I'm unemployed. Gimme a break. Not. Don't pity me.
Dec 30th, 2008 - PS3 Rainbow Six Vegas
Yeah, I bought a PS3 first person shooter. My first one in a long time. It's
not a new title. In fact, it's a 'Best Of' discounted game. Ha ha. I am
cheap, but this sure is fun. I also convinced Kampong Boy to get it and we've
been doing co-op online. Anybody else have this? Let's do 4 players. If Loti
misses its daily schedule, this is the game to blame.
Dec 27th, 2008 - Coldplay / Viva La Vida Remix Download
Are you a Coldplay fan like me? Then you might want to go here to download
the remix to Viva La Vida. While not a song I am most fond of on that album
(despite all the praise from reviewers), this is the Thin White Duke remix you
can hear at clubs these days. Get it before January 5th.
Dec 25th, 2008 - Merry Christmas!
Have a happy Christmas everyone! Turn that upside down smile into an upside down
frown! Or is it the other way around? Aah, whatever. Just be happy it's cold
today in Singapore. No snow. But it's as good as the tropical festive weather gets.
Dec 23rd, 2008 - Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3 DX
Wah! WMMT 3DX is here! Virtualand doesn't stop delivering the goods straight
out of Japan. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, hatchback Subaru WRX STI, Mazda MX-5
and Nissan 370Z have been added to the car lineup. A high speed Nagoya course,
similar to the Hanshin line, is introduced into the story. And cars can now go
to 825HP! Coin entry music and stage select BGM are new too.
Dec 22nd, 2008 - Quick Update
Hey, if you've been following Loti, you may want to check out the Straits Times
on Christmas Day. Yup. There's a little Loti strip inside that I hope everybody
will like. It's a bit longer than 4 panels. Oh, and it's about...Christmas.
Dec 19th, 2008 - Beatmania IIDX 15: DJ Troopers CS
Barely 7 months after the release of Gold on the PS2, DJ Troopers arrives and
we've now caught up with Singapore arcades. Featuring 10 new CS songs for a
total of 94 songs (smooooch・∀・from Empress is in it!) and new harder, Another
charts (that I'll never clear), Konami continues to roll out its Bemani goods
like nobody's business. I'm thinking of getting an arcade controller...
Dec 18th, 2008 - Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Cross Generation Of Heroes
This is out in Zone X arcades. The Capcom Vs series of fighting games has a
new entry in TVsC and I'm happy to report it plays like the frantic MVsC series.
Nothing like mixing up super combos and screen filling specials. The character
roster is small, but Tatsunoko icons like Casshern and Ken the Eagle are present.
4 buttons do not mean it is dumbed down. I actually like it.
Dec 15th, 2008 - Virtualand in Ang Mo Kio
Oh man, Virtualand has finally opened a new arcade in Ang Mo Kio. It's at the
Big Mac Centre opposite AMK Hub on level 2. Now I can train Street Fighter IV
in the neighborhood areas instead of getting trashed at Bugis. There's also an
opening promotion of 4 extra tokens for every 20 bought. Zone X is gonna have
some competition.
Dec 12th, 2008 - ZoukOut!!!!!
In less than 24 hours, we will descend upon Sentosa's Siloso Beach for close
to half a day of music from the likes of The Teenagers, Electrico, Sasha and
Above & Beyond, not to mention some Mambo Jambo, which I haven't done in
a long time. I'll be there for the whole duration. It's quite easy to spot me
if you've been following the site. See you all!
Dec 11th, 2008 - Soldner X Himmelssturmer
When videogame store Play-Asia announced they were gonna to fund the development
of a horizontal shooter, I brushed it off as "homebrew-bound", much like the
Neo Geo homebrew, Last Hope. Today, Soldner X arrives on PSN and it
turns out to be a relatively decent hi-res affair, with a weapon system ala
Thunderforce III, but not quite. The chain system is clumsy and limiting.
Dec 10th, 2008 - PS2 Sega Ages Vol. 31 Virtual On
I opened this game I bought a year ago. It's a PS2 port of Virtual On from 1995.
I never figured out how to play it until last night. It's a very deep game once
you learn how to do cancels and time your movements. This version supports
wide screen, 480P, a learning AI and even the ability to use Z-Gradt! With that,
I have finally caught up with all my unopened games. Now for my unread books.
Dec 6th, 2008 - Jubeat
Woah. Konami's new Bemani game is here in Virtualand. Jubeat features a 4x4
button grid that you have to press to the rhythm of the images below to make
music. It's a completely new learning curve for music game fans like me. The
music selection includes tracks from Beatmania, Guitarfreaks & Drummania,
but I noticed some licensed songs from Scatman and the Village People too!
Dec 3rd, 2008 - Ling Kai / Honestly EP
Our local singer/songwriter Ling Kai's EP is finally out and available at
Sembawang Music Centres islandwide. Her debut song Larkin Step made Youtube
history so I won't link to it out of respect. She'll know what I mean. If you
haven't heard it, go to her website. But I actually prefer the other songs on
this 6 track EP, Faecebook Photograph and Distraction in particular.
Dec 1st, 2008 - Justice / A Cross The Universe
A documentary DVD capturing Justice's 2008 North American tour and all their
tour antics is something I don't really care for these days, but the live CD
that is part of this set, now that's something else. Justice is an act that
sounds better live because of all the extra sampling and sounds they throw in.
Even the crowd becomes an instrument of the soundscape. Get this for the CD.
