December 30th, 2009 - New Loti Wallpaper!

News59

It's almost 2010.
So let's end the year
with a nice toffee-inspired
Loti wallpaper!

Benson may be small,
but he has a big heart.
Let's all go for a ride
on the back of his
dad's lorry.
It's the coolest!

December 23rd, 2009 - New Loti Wallpaper!

News58

This week's wallpaper download
features the class monitor of 2C,
Xu Xiao-An.

She's really tall and
really smart.
She seems like she's got
a lot on her mind here though.

Perhaps Shuwen just did
something that is absolutely...
"stunning".

Anyway, have a Merry Christmas
and we'll have another wallpaper
for you next week.

December 21st, 2009 - Loti Sighting!

News57

Check this out.
A fellow reader has spotted Loti!

Loti is always wondering
around somewhere out there.

If any of you have seen him,
do take a picture and
send it to us so we can
post up more Loti sightings.

December 17th, 2009 - New Loti Wallpaper!

News56

Catch up time!
A new Loti wallpaper is
now available for download
in the Product section.
(Older ones have been archived
in the Exhibits section.)

These were supposed to
come out when Loti Vol. 1
was released, but things just
got a bit too crazy.
Better late than never.

This week's wallpaper is
none other than that of
Huang Shuwen.
Who will appear next week?

December 14th, 2009 - Siao Liao

News55

Dear Friends,
this is the beginning
of the end.
We are on Facebook.

You asked,
we listened.
So don't sabo us
and not click us.

Several things to note:

1. We are still quite newbie
to this, so please bear
with the WIP nature of the page.

2. We can apparently level up
when we hit 100 fans.

3. For those who know us personally,
we do not guarantee that your secret
identity will be protected if you join.
(Be warned.)

4. Let's all be clear that Facebook
was created by SATAN.

See you all on the other side.

December 12th, 2009 - The Bishi Bashi

News54

We love this!

Konami's Bishi Bashi makes
the jump to HD in the arcades
and it's still as fun as
the first time you played it.

The Bishi Bashi is 3 player,
mini game fest that is
all about button mashing.

You can now select different
avatars for you and your friends
and there is e-Amusement connectivity
so you can level up and collect
more unlockable characters!
There is apparently a 6 player,
team VS mode too between
linked machines.
Can you reach Stage 22
with 1 coin?

+++ UPDATE +++

OK, I've played about
10 credits over the course
of 3 days and have come to
the conclusion that
you can only play 2 credits
back to back before your
optimal mashing level breaks down.

I can reach Stage 13 or 14 with
1 credit on average.
Most of the deaths occur
because I am unfamiliar with
the stage and the specific controls.
Also depending on the order
you get, it is possible to
reach higher levels with 1 coin
if the easier stages (pure mashing)
come out later.

Once I've played ALL permutations
of the stages, I will attempt a 1CC.
Anybody want to train up as well?
This is such an awesome game!

December 7th, 2009 - Talk Is Cheap

News53

I am a loser.
But there are days
when I really know I am one.

I was flipping through
the last issue of my alumni magazine
and came across the above picture.

The guy on the left looks like
any random US Marine/Ranger/Recon
serving in Iraq, involved
in the fight against terror and
rebuilding of the areas within
that hot zone.

Except...I know that guy.

His name is Wes and
he was one of my classmates
at the university.
I met a lot of ang mors in
my lifetime, but Wes sticks out
because he's one of those people who
knows exactly what he's doing.

Back in the year 2000
(I can't believe I just said "back"
and "2000" in the same sentence),
I had a conversation with Wes
about the Iraq invasion and stuff
about the war effort.
He said that he's probably gonna
go over there and see what he can do
to try to make things better.
He's not a garang fella who wants
to kick ass and do headshots.
Heck, he's smaller sized than I am.
But he knew that he wanted to do
something about the situation.

Nine years later, I see this.
Wes, working with the local
government forces, with a
real M4 RIS Carbine with ACOG scope,
who probably had real 7.62 rounds
fired at him (he's an officer I believe),
while I am holding a PS3 controller
playing Modern Warfare 2.

According to the article,
he's just finished his 2+ year
tour of duty there and
has done a significant amount
of nation/infrastructure rebuilding.

Whether you believe in the war
or not is a moot point.
The point here is that
he did what he said he would do.
In a time when a lot of people
talk a lot of shit and declare
war on work (resulting in nothing much
being done), Wes puts me in my place
and makes me realize how small
I can be in the grand scheme of things.

The only saving grace I have is
that I said I would give this
comic thing a try and I am
actually doing it now.
So maybe I am not as big a loser
as I think I am.

Still...

December 1st, 2009 - December Update

News52

It's December.
One more month to go
and it'll be 2010.
The year we make contact.
(If you didn't get that, nevermind.)

Several things are happening
this month, most of which
are backend stuff,
the most notable one being
another cosy event to
have a conversation.

After the session at
the Singapore Writer's Festival,
the folks at Books Actually
have kindly allowed us to use
their premises to continue the
conversation we were having
and provide an opportunity for
those who could not attend
the last time.

It is currently slated
for 7:30pm, December 11 (Friday)
at BooksActually (No. 86 Club Street).
I believe we can go on
for more than an hour
so we can accomodate stragglers
after dinner too.

Check back for more details
(or changes) next week!
