Absolutely amazing! I just did a first run through the story and boy I am impressed. Great stuff there Troy! It does capture a lot of things that we share. I say keep running... and I wish this journey takes you and all of those who knew you somewhere...I enjoy the ride along because I know I can't do it myself. Eric @ 2007-11-05 15:04:11
I really like this -- it's down to earth, and somehow, while it's driving at nothing and is nothing enthralling, it has a certain element that can make you read on.
I was hooked on it, and somewhat disappointed to reach the end of this part so fast. Perhaps it's because, deep down, I do want to see the protagonist succeed in his dreams.
Good work, and looking forward to more. Hope the protagonist gets a happy ending (and perhaps a son too for his mum to carry). Vincent @ 2007-11-10 00:32:57
Great job!!!
The comic has a rather therapeutic touch to it, that makes me reflect on things you'll never really notice unless you're away for quite awhile from SG...
Great Job.... 很有共鸣 :) Weilun @ 2007-11-11 11:34:52
I'm a singaporean who's just been shipped to the us for my first year of college in a small town in the middle of Mass. I miss home intensely, and your stories (esp your incredibly realistic renditions of places) bring back all the little touches of Singapore that I never actively think about, but miss all the same. Thanks for reminding me about the little things.
I really like your work in general, though I prefer this to All Things Being ; the musing, slightly stream of consciousness feel makes it easier to relate to. Though, If this was any reflection of what you think of your abilities, then you've really been blind to your capabilities. You most definitely can draw and write.
Interesting dreams you have. Kassandra @ 2007-11-11 14:57:46
Very nice! Especially identifies with any Singaporean who has spent some time overseas, which commercially speaking, may be too small a niche market. But what the heck, it's good. David @ 2007-11-12 04:36:04
Thanks for sharing your work with us. I like the fresh view of Singapore and feel drawn to the very real characters. Looking forward to more. Myron Tay @ 2007-11-17 21:17:30
hi man, read thru ur entire part one... for some strange reason, it made me smile. reminds me of a special friend who's away in another country. yya @ 2007-11-27 23:53:18
Lovely. Your descriptions are vivid and true. I love the sense of the liminal, your state of being inbetween. As a repatriated expat I've experienced a lot of the same things. Best of luck. JJ @ 2007-12-11 02:51:04
Nice. Celeste @ 2008-06-27 20:15:06
Reminded me of my first few weeks after I came back from Oklahoma City. Thanks for the comic.
Also, let you know the SQ plane from New York has wing tips. You left it out Sean Goh @ 2008-08-13 18:11:17
The wing tips are there. Look carefully. They are shaded in black. =) Troy @ 2008-08-13 22:45:51
Lovely work. Keep it up! kf @ 2008-08-16 15:41:21
reminded me of the period of adjustment i went through when i first came back. people also kept asking if i was singaporean. i think it was because i spoke in full sentences. i soon dropped that nasty habit. also couldn't get used to the fact that there was no fresh milk in the family fridge - only carnation and condense : ) those were strange times. i can hardly remember much of those days now. thanks for reminding. great work. please keep doing this. very few authentic voices about singapore sharon @ 2008-09-28 20:34:48
This comment may come 2 years late, I saw that many people commented in 2007. I am so slow :|
Nonetheless, I would like to tell you that I really love your stories (I read all 3 of them). Having stayed overseas for about 4 years now, everytime I return to Singapore I find myself pondering on the very same issues that you have written about. And the way you use katakana when you are trying to make sound noises! I like that too!
I look forward to your next piece of work :D

Poor snail! I love it. I hear this is in print, I would buy all your stuff just based on this volume of Resident Tourist and my first reading of Waking Zoe.
It is *such* a pleasure to go HUHWHAT??? when reading a comic :P icedwater @ 2009-07-11 02:24:03
